'One of the biggest defeats for LDF in Kerala's political history'; major setback, says Saji Cherian
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Saji Cherian said the CPM suffered a major setback beyond expectations in the elections. When the UDF swept Kerala by winning 102 seats, the LDF could win only 35 seats. Saji Cherian won in Chengannur with a majority of more than 10,000 votes.
'Accepts the setback. The reason for it will be examined seriously. There may have been organizational weaknesses. We need to examine the shortcomings in the stands we had taken. We need to rectify the faults in administrative matters. This is one of the biggest defeats for LDF in Kerala's political history.
However, no one should be arrogant. Last time we won 99 seats. Those who are happy now will have to cry next time. If we act with dignity, decency and with the people's will in mind, can returm. Party workers should not be disappointed,' said Saji Cherian.
The LDF has fallen to a pitiful 35 seats out of 99. 20 ministers including the chief minister who contested, 13 have lost. This is the first time since the 2001 elections when it had 40 seats that the LDF has come down to such a small number. The UDF has jumped from a pitiful 41 seats to a stunning victory. This is the best victory for the UDF since 1977.
