MULANTHURUTHY: In a tragic incident, a youth died after a gas cylinder exploded at a rented house near Moolekkurishu in Perumpilly in Mulanthuruthy. The deceased has been identified as Perumpilly native Ani (47), an autorickshaw driver. The accident took place at around 8 pm on Saturday. Ani had been living on the first floor of the house owned by a person named Mathayi in Perumpilly.

The fire that spread from Ani's house caused the gas cylinder in the downstairs house to explode, but fortunately, no one was present in the house at that time, averting a major disaster. Locals and the fire force immediately rushed to the spot soon after hearing the loud explosion from the house. Although the fire was doused off and Ani was taken out of the house, he soon succumbed to his burn injuries. The house was completely destroyed by the fire.
