THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: No additional facilities were provided in jail for Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, who was arrested in the Sabarimala gold theft case.

The chief priest of the Sabarimala temple was only given the facilities available to ordinary remand prisoners. He was provided with a bed and a fan. However, Tantri was allowed to bring outside food.

Remanded prisoners are those in prison awaiting trial. Remand is an order issued by the court to keep them in custody when more than 24 hours are needed to complete the investigation. Remanded prisoners have certain special considerations and rights under the law. Unlike ordinary prisoners, they are allowed to wear their own clothes. They are not required to do any work in the prison. They are kept in a secluded space so as not to maintain any contact with convicts.
