Writing ‘Niyamasabhangam’ in Malayalam in his official vehicle, instead of ‘MLA’ landed him in trouble. Thiruvalla MLA and JDS leader Mathew T Thomas shared his experience on social media. He narrated the incident in which the watch-and-ward staff stopped him when he tried to park his vehicle at the Kerala Assembly the other day. He was denied parking permission on the grounds that the space was meant only for vehicles of MLAs.
His FB post
‘This is the car I have been using since 2018. It has run 2.25 lakh kilometers. When I tried to park my vehicle in the assembly today, a watch-and-ward staff member, not familiar with me, politely told me that only vehicles of MLAs are allowed to park here. When I asked whether vehicles of assembly members are not allowed to park here, his immediate reply was that only vehicles of ‘MLAs’ are permitted. I realized how right my driver Vishnu, who has been repeatedly telling me that writing ‘MLA’ in English only has respect. As the chairman of the official language committee of the assembly as well, I have decided to let this go this way.’
