ALAPPUZHA: The duo who jumped in front of a speeding train in Karuvatta near Haripad in Alappuzha, had reached the railway station by bike. It is reported that both of them reached the spot from the national highway route.

After parking the bike near the station, they reached the platform and jumped in front of the Thiruvananthapuram-North Amritsar Express. The gatekeeper, who saw Sreejith (38) and the girl (17) standing on the platform, felt something unusual. Only a few passenger trains stop at Karuvatta Halt station. The duo waiting for the train in such a station evoked doubts among authorities.

The gatekeeper noticed the two approaching the track after the gate was closed for the arrival of the Amritsar Express. He felt something out of place and shouted not to jump, but the train hit them in the blink of an eye. Their heads were severed. The dead bodies were in an unidentifiable state after the tragedy.

After the accident, the loco pilot reached Alappuzha station and reported the incident. The train was delayed for about 20 minutes. It is learnt that the bike Sreejith used to reach the station belonged to his relative. Sreejith is married and is the father of two children.
