THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar has issued strict instructions to the district police chiefs to prevent unnecessary use of phones by police during duty. "Phone use seriously affects duties, including patrolling. I am constantly seeing phone calls and unnecessary phone use by policemen on duty," the DGP said. Ravada Chandrasekhar's instruction was made at the first meeting of district police chiefs convened after he became the police chief.

Policemen should enhance the reputation of the force. There should be no actions that create a stigma in the public. There should be no action from the side of the force members that would damage the morale of the police. In conflict situations, police action should not be initiated except by the officer in charge of law and order. Other lower-level officers should not initiate police action.

The police should be on alert even in situations where there is no foreseeable conflict. Protective gear should be worn to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Not a single policeman should get hurt while maintaining law and order. The district police chiefs will be responsible for this, DGP added.
