Rahul Mamkootathil's arrest: Complainant to return from Canada soon, will produce crucial evidence

PALAKKAD: Rahul Mamkootathil MLA was remanded for 14 days and sent to Mavelikkara sub-jail in the sexual assault complaint. A 31-year-old married woman from Kottayam filed a complaint through an email from Canada on January 5. The police surreptitiously carried out the arrest of the MLA on Saturday.

The young woman, now settled in Canada, will reach Kerala either on Monday or Tuesday to give her statement. The clothes she wore during the assault are kept safely at her home. It is estimated that they contain semen stains. Based on this, Rahul's blood sample was collected for DNA testing.

The remand report states that the woman was sexually assaulted on April 8, 2024, at a hotel in Thiruvalla.

Rahul invited the woman to a hotel room, saying that he needed privacy. A room was booked for the young woman who arrived at around 1 pm. Rahul reached the room after fifteen minutes. As soon as he saw her, Rahul pushed her onto the bed. He slapped and punched her in the face and subdued her. He forcibly removed her clothes. She tried to push him away, but had to give up after he started biting her, causing pain. After torturing her, Rahul hurled expletives and spat on her face. Immediately after the incident, he went to a political party event in Kayamkulam.

The third complaint was received on January 5. Since the earlier two cases faced setbacks, only the DGP, ADGP H. Venkatesh and DIG G. Poonguzhali were made aware of the case. The FIR was filed on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister received the emotional voice message of the survivor. The young woman revealed the brutal torture in the audio message to the chief minister.
