Rahul to reach Palakkad for first time after arrest in third rape case

PALAKKAD: After controversies and legal proceedings, Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil will visit his constituency today. Rahul is coming to the constituency for handing over the keys of the houses built under his leadership. This is the first time Rahul is attending a public event in the constituency after being arrested in the third rape case.

Rahul was arrested in the third rape case on January 11. The complainant, who filed the first rape case against Rahul, who is presently out on bail in other cases, has approached the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of his bail.

He was granted bail in the case of raping the complainant and forcing abortion. The woman alleged in her plea that Rahul's continued presence outside is a threat to her life and granting him bail is illegal. The plea alleged that he had raped about ten people, including a minor girl.

Rahul is coming to the constituency with the assembly elections on the doorstep. However, in the wake of Rahul's expulsion from the party, discussions are active about who will be the UDF candidate in the Palakkad constituency in the upcoming elections. Reports say in the present situation actor Ramesh Pisharody is likely to be the candidate.
