Rain brings relief from heat, likely to continue till April 1

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department has said that summer rains in the state will continue until April 1. Isolated rainfall was reported in several places yesterday.

Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Palakkad districts. Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also expected. Light rain is likely in other districts.

Yesterday, summer showers were reported in isolated areas of Kannur, Kottayam, and Kozhikode districts. The sky remained cloudy in Thiruvananthapuram, with light rain in some areas.

At the same time, a high temperature warning remains in place. A yellow alert has been issued in 12 districts due to rising temperatures. Temperatures may reach up to 38°C in Kollam and Palakkad districts. In Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur, temperatures may rise up to 37°C. In Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, and Kasaragod, temperatures may go up to 36°C. The temperature is expected to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal.
