Rains to become stronger in Kerala? Orange alert, wind speed up to 50 kmph likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rains are likely to get stronger in Kerala. Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert today. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines very heavy rain between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected. Meanwhile, the IMD has informed that there is no obstacle to fishing on the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today.

The cyclonic circulation is located over North Odisha and the adjacent Gangetic plains of West Bengal. A low-pressure area is located from the Maharashtra coast to the Karnataka coast. As a result, there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. The IMD has informed that winds are also likely to strengthen with a maximum speed of 40 to 50 kmph over Kerala till July 7.
