Rains to intensify in coming hours; five districts warned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain has been predicted in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in five districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki are on yellow alert. Isolated heavy rains are predicted. Heavy rains are defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki in the next three hours. Heavy rains will continue tomorrow as well. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam tomorrow.


Fishermen alerted
The IMD has informed that fishing should not be done along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today, and fishing will not be allowed along the Karnataka coast. Strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph and bad weather are possible along the south Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today.
