THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state on Monday. Northern and central districts will receive more rainfall. Yellow alert has been declared in nine districts namely Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
Meantime, yellow alert has also been declared in the districts of Kottayam, Idukkki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday and in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday.
The low pressure area in Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression on Monday. There is a possibility of landslides in areas that have received heavy rains in the past few days, warned the authorities.
Holiday for educational institutions
In the wake of the ongoing heavy rains, a holiday has been declared for all the educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Monday. The schools in Peerumedu and Devikulam taluks of Idukki and the educational institutions in Chinnakanal and Bison Valley panchayats will also have a holiday on Monday.
The district collector has also declared a holiday for the educational institutions in Kuttanad taluk and the schools functioning as disaster relief camps in Alappuzha.
