Rains to lash state today, don’t forget umbrellas, warning issued to four districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.


Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad tomorrow. The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the nearby Sri Lankan coast has intensified into a cyclonic storm Ditwah. It is likely to move north-northwestwards and cross the southwest Bay of Bengal towards the north Tamil Nadu-Puthucherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts by the morning of November 30. In this situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rains will continue in Kerala in the coming days.


Black Sea alert
As part of the black sea phenomenon, there is a possibility of sea erosion due to high waves of 0.4 to 0.8 meters on the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyur), Kollam (from Alappat to Edava), Kozhikode (from Chombala FH to Ramanattukara) districts and 0.7 to 1.0 meters on the coasts of Kanyakumari, the National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) has informed.
