THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With controversy brewing, CPM leaders are busy explaining to naysayers the rationale behind appointing Ravada Chandrasekhar as the new state police chief. Criticism blew out of proportion after CPM leader P Jayarajan threw brickbats at Ravada for his alleged role in the infamous Koothuparambu firing and demanded answers from the government.

Although Jayarajan's remark does not oppose the appointment, his inner dissatisfaction was palpable in the words. It is reported that the Chief Minister opted for Ravada as the best from the list of three for the post of state police chief.

CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan said the party would strongly stand behind the government in this decision.

"The court had acquitted Ravada in the Koothuparamba case. The government had taken the decision based on the list provided by the Central government," said Govindan.

Minister Vasavan supported Ravada’s ascension as state police chief and highlighted the importance of factors such as law and order maintenance, investigative excellence, and administrative excellence in the selection.

CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam backed the government decision as the party was apprehensive about ADGP Ajith Kumar’s rumoured DGP role.
