VIZHINJAM: Sandhya teacher, who had her leg amputated in a scary road accident, will now be able to return to school. She will return to her beloved students after receiving permission from the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, to employ her under the Disability Act.
Sandhya Rani (37) is the wife of Ranjith, a Kalluvettan Kuzhi native. On December 19 last year, she was travelling on a scooter with her 5-year-old son when she was hit by a Tipper lorry at Vizhinjam Junction. The accident was caused by a tipper lorry speeding to Vizhinjam harbour with gravel. The accident shattered her after the doctors deemed it vital to amputate her leg. Sandhya was a teacher at Venganur Govt. Model HSS.
On June 2, Kerala Kaumudi reported the ordeal of Sandhya, who was separated from her beloved students at the beginning of the academic year. The report came to the notice of Education Minister V Sivankutty, who reached Sandhya’s house and consoled her. Soon after, Adani Port Company also handed over the amount announced for medical assistance.
Sandhya thanked Minister V. Sivankutty and the government for making it possible to once again return to her beloved school.
