Shashi Tharoor’s car blocked, attack attempt leaves gunman injured; three held

MALAPPURAM: Three people have been taken into custody for blocking Shashi Tharoor MP's car and attempting to physically assault him. The two cars in which the accused were travelling have also been taken into custody. Vandoor police said that the accused are being questioned in detail. A case has also been registered against five identifiable individuals in connection with the incident. One of the detained persons, identified as Ummer, has been arrested under non-bailable charges.

The incident took place around 7 pm on Friday at Chellithodu in Malappuram. Shashi Tharoor had arrived in the area to campaign for UDF candidate A P Anil Kumar. According to reports, the MP’s car got stuck in traffic, and when the horn was sounded, passengers in the car ahead became angry and tried to attack. Tharoor’s gunman was injured during the incident. The gunman later filed the complaint with the police.
