THALIPARAMBA: Five dairy cows tied to a cowshed died of electrocution. The cows belong to a couple named Shyamala and Damodaran near Kanaramvayal Anganwadi on Edakkom Road. The loss is estimated at four lakh rupees.

Shyamala, who went to the cowshed for milking yesterday morning and switched on the bulb was electrocuted and thrown off. That's when she found the cows dead.

The cowshed has a roof made of tin sheets. It is believed that the cows were electrocuted due to a short circuit.

Shyamala, who is also the director of Kanaramvayal Dairy Cooperative Society, supplies about 50 litres of milk. M. Vijin MLA has spoken to Minister Chinjurani for compensation.

Tragic scene

The locals say that Damodaran and Shyamala protected the cows with the same care they give to their children. For a long time, this couple's life was dedicated to these animals. The couple is now in tears as they face the reality that all five of them are gone. People had to tie up the five cows and bring them to the other side of the stream for burial.
