KANNUR: The court has strongly criticised the Home Department's efforts to protect the CPM activists accused of the attack on police officers. In 2015, CPM activists attacked police officers, including an SI in Ramanthali and damaged their vehicles. The court's criticism was in response to the Home Department's plea seeking withdrawal of the case registered against the CPM activists in the incident. The court rejected the petition.
Taliparamba Sessions Court Judge K.N. Prashanth questioned the Home Department's move to withdraw the criminal cases. The court asked what the public interest was behind the cancellation of the case. The court said that all 13 CPM workers accused in the case should face trial.
CPM activists attacked police officers while they were on patrol following the CPM-SDPI clash. The attack was carried out by stopping the vehicle of SI KP Shine and others. The police officers were injured in the attack using weapons including machetes.
