THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday inaugurated the 93rd Sivagiri Pilgrimage at Sivagiri, Varkala. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister Suresh Gopi, Minister MB Rajesh and Shashi Tharoor MP attended the function. Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham President Swami Sachidananda presided over the function.
In his inaugural address, the Vice President said that the teachings given by Sree Narayana Guru many years ago continue to motivate people even today and will remain relevant in the future as well.
"The lessons that Sree Narayana Guruji taught us several years ago motivate us even today. Moreover, there is no doubt that those thoughts will motivate us in future as well. The four books presented here today hint that Guruji's principles and philosophies will be studied and researched at all times. They prove that research will continue in the coming years as well.
I would like to congratulate the authors of these four books, including Shashi Tharoor MP and a teacher from the University of Kerala, for their hard work. I am also extending my heartfelt wishes to the people who came here with faith and hope. I am happy to stand before you today. As we celebrate the 93rd Pilgrimage, I realise that I am not standing on ordinary land, but on land that thinks. Sivagiri is a journey of the mind and heart. It is the land of Vedanta. Swami worked with the aim of building a good society through strong organisation and education,” the Vice President said.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Pilgrimage conference tomorrow at 9.30 am. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be the chief guest. More than 50 lakh pilgrims are expected to attend the pilgrimage this year. Over 150 pilgrimages on foot will reach Sivagiri from different parts of the state, other states, and from abroad. The pilgrimage is being held on December 30, 31, and January 1. To manage the large crowd, the pilgrimage season began on December 15.
