KOTHAMANGALAM: On May 12, Eldhose drowned in a pond in Kurunthotti in Kothamangalam. Just two months later, his daughter Sona Eldhose, who dreamed of becoming a teacher, ended her life in dismay over the ill treatment received from her boyfriend. Since the death of her father, Sona was devastated, but things only started going downhill from there. Even at the time of grieving, she was tortured due to religious fanaticism by her boyfriend’s family. Sona leaves behind her mother Bindu, a domestic help and her elder brother, a driver.

BJP state vice president Shone George and MLA Antony John visited the house of the victim yesterday. A special team led by Muvattupuzha DySP and Kothamangalam and Kuttampuzha inspectors have been formed to investigate the suicide of the young woman.

After completing her degree, Sona wanted to pursue a course in teaching, but decided to wait for one more year to teach her friend Ramees. The youngster had failed one paper, and it was Sona who helped him pass the exams. Soon after, she joined the TTC course. Sona and Ramees met for the first time at Aluva UC College in the B.A. Malayalam class.

Ramees barely talks to his parents. His mother is Sherry, a Christian, who married Rahim ( Ramees' father) out of love. Rahim runs a meat shop in the area. Till two years ago, Rameez used to run the shop, but it eventually closed down, leaving the youngster jobless.

Unlike his cold relationship with his parents, Ramees is friendly with the youths who are his relatives in Vedimara. Apart from the immoral traffic case, the youngster was also once charged with drunken driving.

Rahim runs three meat shops in and around Panaikulam. Recently, they bought a new house near the godown at the Millupady bus stop and settled here. Two years ago, cannabis was seized from one of their shops in Panaikulam. Ramees has a sister who is married.

The BJP will take out a march to the Kothamangalam police station this evening, demanding strict action in the suicide of Sona Eldhose.
