THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister V. Sivankutty has directed the Director of General Education to conduct an inquiry and submit a report regarding the spelling mistakes found in some of the Higher Secondary annual exam question papers. The minister stated that question paper preparation is carried out confidentially through multiple stages, and the investigation will identify at which stage the negligence occurred. If any issues are found to have severely impacted students, necessary decisions and actions will be taken during the evaluation process, he added.
Serious spelling errors were found in the Malayalam Part Two public exam question paper of the 2025 Higher Secondary exams. More than a dozen spelling mistakes appeared in a single question paper. The preparation of the question paper with such serious negligence has drawn strong criticism, with many calling it extremely irresponsible. The minister intervened in the issue as a group of parents were preparing to approach the court over the incident.
Major spelling mistakes were also found in other papers like Plus One Biology, Plus Two Economics, Biology, and Zoology. The errors were primarily in the Malayalam sections of question papers prepared in both English and Malayalam.
