State-of-the-art isolation block in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode medical colleges

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said that the isolation blocks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode Medical Colleges will be completed on time. The last cabinet meeting had given administrative approval to set up isolation blocks for these two medical colleges to isolate and treat patients suffering from infectious diseases. 34.74 crore rupees was given to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and 34.92 crore rupees to Kozhikode Medical College with the help of KIIFB. The Minister also stated that this will help in making the health sector more prepared to deal with pandemics like Covid and other infectious diseases.

It has been decided to set up isolation blocks in all 140 constituencies in the state for epidemic prevention. A modern 10-bed isolation ward is set up in one hospital in each constituency. The Chief Minister had recently inaugurated 10 of them which were fully completed. Isolation blocks with advanced systems are being set up in two prominent medical colleges of the state in addition to this.

A 50-bed isolation block is being set up at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. A four-storied building is being constructed on an area of ​​3500 square meters. There will be OP section, wards, isolation units, and testing facilities. The ground floor will have reception, swab test, laboratory, waiting area, consultation room, X-ray, procedure room, USG room, and pharmacy. The first floor will have nursing staff room, doctors lounge, seminar room, bystander waiting area, nurses station, and isolation rooms, and the second and third floors will have isolation rooms, isolation ward, and procedure room.

A 40-bed isolation block is being constructed at Kozhikode Medical College. It is a 3-storey building of 3600 sq.m. The ground floor will have reception, bystander waiting area, pre and post-sampling area, pharmacy, consultation room, nurses station, procedure room and screening room. The first floor will have isolation rooms, isolation wards, bystander waiting area, nurses station, procedure room, and doctors lounge and the second floor will have isolation rooms, isolation wards, and procedure room.
