THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there will be rain in various districts of the state today. Along with this, there will be wind. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate (5-15 mm) rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in all districts of Kerala in the next three hours.
A yellow alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod today. Isolated heavy rain is predicted in these places. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorms is expected.
Alert issued to people
People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also take precautions and move as per the instructions of the authorities.
People living in disaster-prone areas should ensure that camps are opened in their area and move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local body and revenue authorities.
Due to the possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially cautious. Those who are aware of the danger should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.
They should also be aware of the dangers that may arise due to trees falling and posts collapsing in the wind.
