KOCHI: Amid student conflicts, SFI on Wednesday declared indefinite strike at Ernakulam Maharaja's College. The college, which was closed due to the conflict, opened today with tight security. The decision was taken in a discussion with the student union representatives.
Principal-in-charge Dr Shajila Beevi said that students will not be allowed in the college premises after 6 pm. "There will be police presence in the college for a few more days. The decision of the government is awaited on the letter of the former principal asking for the appointment of five security personnel," she said.
The college was closed indefinitely on January 18 following a clash between SFI, KSU and Fraternity activists. SFI unit secretary Abdul Nasser was stabbed in the conflict. A case has been registered against more than 30 students in the incident.
In the context of conflicts, Maharajas College Principal Dr. VS Joy was transferred to Sree Neelakanda Government Sanskrit College in Pattambi. The order stated that the transfer was based on the recommendation of the Director of Collegiate Education. VS Joy is the second accused in the case related to the Maharajas College mark list controversy.
