THRISSUR: Dr Mar Aprem Metropolitan, the head of the Chaldean Syrian Church passed away Monday morning. He was 85. He was leading a retired life due to age-related ailments. He was born on June 13, 1940, as the fourth son of Devassy and Kochu Mariam of the Mooken family in Thrissur. He was active in the field of work even after leaving the post of President of the Chaldean Syrian Church. His first name was George Davis Mooken.
He was ordained as a priest on June 13, 1965. When Mar Aprem became Metropolitan at the age of 28, he was the second youngest bishop in the history of the Christian Church in India up to that time.
He has written more than seventy books in English and Malayalam. He has written books in various genres such as travelogues, biographies, autobiographies, plays, and church history. He has also composed several Christian devotional songs. Sree Narayana Guru's Daivadashakam was translated into Syriac and presented on stage in Sharjah.
