THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar has flown to Delhi to hold talks with the party’s central leadership to select the BJP’s mayoral candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. He will reach the capital city on Saturday and after that state level talks will begin.
Meantime, a meeting of office bearers of constituency and the district core committee will meet today to review the elections. Further decisions will be taken after knowing the moves of the central leadership.
The names of BJP state vice president and former DGP R Sreelekha and state secretary V V Rajesh are under active consideration. It is possible that a name will be finally suggested after examining the names submitted by the RSS to the central leadership. The possibility of fielding a surprise candidate for the mayoral post as a party representative cannot be ruled out.
Several people who were members of previous councils are also members of the current council. If experience is made the criterion, most of them will get the permanent committee chairmanship positions. Since the LDF and UDF parties have taken a stand not to give the permanent committee chairmanship position and since most of them are young, most of them will get the opportunity. Since the CPM experiment of giving opportunities to new faces was a mistake, it is reported that the BJP will give priority to experienced ones.
