Theft in house of Monson Mavunkal, accused in antiques fraud case; Items worth Rs 20 crore stolen

KOCHI: A theft in the house of Monson Mavunkal, an accused in the antiques fraud case. Ernakulam North police visited the spot and inspected it. It is not clear what all items have been stolen. Monson's house and belongings are presently in the custody of the crime branch. Monson had received permission from the high court to take these.


Monson is presently on parole. As per the order, crime branch officials reached his house in Kaloor with him to take stock of the items in the house. A part of the house was then found to be collapsed. The police reached the spot and inspected on the complaint of Monson that many of the antiques inside had been stolen.


Monson's lawyer M G Sreejith said items worth about Rs 20 crore were stolen. The theft was committed after the CCTV was dismantled. When the people including the commission from the court came and inspected the house two weeks ago, there was no damage. The lawyer also said that the theft was only discovered after they came and inspected it as per the order of the high court.
