
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The royal family is not cooperating with the investigation in connection with the theft at the Kowdiar Palace. The police had examined the financial transactions of some related to the palace. It is heard that the royal family intensified their non-cooperation after questioning them. The royal family has filed a complaint with high-ranking officials, alleging that the police are harassing them.
The news of the theft at Kowdiar Palace came to light last month. Two crores worth of gold ornaments kept in the cupboard were stolen. The Peroorkada police registered a case on the complaint filed by Aswathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi. Though the theft was noticed in October-November 2025, the police received the complaint only four months later.
The complaint states that the ornaments were found missing when the cupboard was opened before leaving for Bengaluru. The complaint also says that the ornaments were there until ten days before that. Approached police with the complaint after an investigation among the family members thinking that they had been taken by those in the palace, failed to yield any results.
The police were unable to find anything unusual during an examination at the palace. Despite a detailed inspection, no suspicious fingerprints were found. There is a move to investigate the gangs that sell and buy antique ornaments based in the South Indian cities of Chennai and Bengaluru. Similarly, details of the theft of antique jewelry are being sought. The cyber team has already been instructed to examine the mobile phone details of those associated with the palace.
