THRISSUR: KPCC president Sunny Joseph has reacted to the suicide attempt by Padmaja, the daughter-in-law of former DCC treasurer N.M. Vijayan. Sunny Joseph, who said that the Congress party has been supporting Vijayan's family, questioned whether the party could meet all their demands.
“The party has been helping Vijayan’s family. This is not based on any contract or case. There is no such agreement. We are helping the family out of generosity. The Congress party wants to do everything possible for them, but right now, there is no money for that,” Sunny Joseph said.
Padmaja, who slit her wrist, has been admitted to a private hospital in Bathery. Her health is reported to be stable. Last year, N.M. Vijayan and his son Vijesh had died by suicide. Yesterday, Padmaja came forward, accusing the KPCC leadership of failing to keep the promises they had given.
Padmaja alleged that although an agreement was made with the party assuring that all liabilities connected to Vijayan’s political activities would be cleared by June 30, nothing has happened so far. Even when her husband Vijesh fell ill and was hospitalised, no one came forward to help. She said that the promised money to settle the hospital bills was not provided. Finally, MLA P.V. Anvar intervened, and only then was Vijesh discharged. Padmaja further said that when they later went to collect the agreement from the lawyer’s office, it was not available. They were told that the party president had taken it to study.
"I've lost faith in the Congress party. Those who work sincerely are being sidelined. Fraudsters are walking around in white clothes. Even our house and land are under mortgage with the bank,” Padmaja said.
