KOCHI: The Navy has confirmed that a foreign cargo ship that tilted in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Kochi is sinking. Three crew members including the captain were rescued by Navy's INS Sujatha. The ship started sinking when more containers fell into the sea. The coast guard and the navy are monitoring the situation. The ship was reported to be safe until 7 am Sunday morning. The situation changed when the sea became rough. It is reported that more water has started entering the ship.

The ship MSC Elsa 3, which was going to Kochi from Vizhinjam, met with an accident yesterday. Navy’s drone helicopter and other rescue operations were there to rescue those on board. The ship was supposed to reach Kochi from Vizhinjam and then go to Thoothukudi. Nine containers had fallen into the sea yesterday. Following this, an alert was issued in coastal areas.

It was announced yesterday that efforts to shift the containers would continue today. Another ship of the same company had been brought in for that purpose. The ship sank in the meantime. 21 of the 24 crew members on board were rescued yesterday. The coast guard had announced that all the crew members were safe. The rescued crew members do not have any health problems.
