Three killed in bus-jeep collision in Ochira, two injured in critical condition

KOLLAM: Three people were killed after a KSRTC fast passenger bus and a Thar collided in Ochira. The jeep was completely destroyed. The accident happened Thursday morning at 6 am. The fast passenger bus proceeding towards Cherthala and the Thar coming from the opposite direction collided head-on on the national highway. The front of the bus was also destroyed.


Thar carrying Prince Thomas (44) of Thevalakkara, and his family were involved in the accident. There were five in the jeep. Prince and his children Athul (14) and Alka (5) are the victims. Prince' wife Bindya Susan Varghese and another daughter Aishwarya are undergoing treatment with serious injuries. They were taken out by cutting open the jeep. The initial conclusion is that the driver of the jeep may have fallen asleep. Police and fire force reached the spot and carried out the rescue operations. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.

The family was returning after dropping Bindya's nephew at Nedumbassery airport to fly to the US. Athul was a class 9 student and Alka, an LKG student. Aishwarya undergoing treatment is a plus two student.
