IDUKKI: A tiger that got trapped in a pit in Idukki was administered a tranquillizer shot. The incident happened in Myladumpara Idukki where the tiger fell into the trap set out in a cardamom plantation. The plantation is on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Surprisingly, a dog also fell into the same trap as the tiger and is barely holding on to life in fear beside the beast.
The drug was administered by a team led by veterinary doctor Anuraj of the Periyar Tiger Reserve.
The tiger was given the first dose of drugs at around noon today. It is expected to take the tiger out of the pit and put it in a cage when it dozes off. The tiger will then be shifted to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Officials are mulling to go for a second tranquillizer shot in case the tiger continues to be awake.
