KOCHI: KSRTC is constructing bus stands using steel (prefab steel structure) instead of concrete buildings. The special feature is that they can be constructed at a lower cost and faster. Ten bus stands, including those in Thiruvananthapuram, will be constructed. The construction will be done using government funds.
The construction of the first such stand has begun in Changanassery. The construction is being done at a cost of Rs. 7 crore on 10,000 square feet. The design is by the architecture section of the Public Works Department. The contract is with Uralungal. It will be completed within six months.
Construction will begin soon on 20,000 square feet at a cost of Rs. 15 crore in Kayamkulam. The others are in Attingal, Vizhinjam, Peroorkada, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Chengannur.
Low cost, fast construction
1. Steel structures cost less, and construction time is less. Long life
2. The floor will be built, and steel pillars will be raised on it and steel walls will be set.
3. Metal sheets will be placed on the beams, and slabs will be laid
4. Steel pillars will be installed on the second floor after this
5. Any number of floors can be built
