ALAPPUZHA: A Chundan vallam (snake boat) met with an accident while being floated to the lake ahead of the vivacious Nehra trophy boat race. Naduvile Paramban Vallam, rowed by Kumarakom Emmanuel Boat Club, got stuck in the Vembanad Lake. The boat that was being towed by another boat lost control in strong winds. The boat's engine broke down, and the team got stuck in the Vembanad Lake. None of the rowers was injured. Another boat was brought from Kumarakom to bring the team to Punnamada. The Chundan Vallam suffered no damage in the accident.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the 71st Nehru Trophy boat race today. 75 boats, including 21 Chundan boats, are participating in the competition. Minister PA Mohammed Riyas will preside over the function. Zimbabwe Deputy Minister Rajeshkumar Indukant Modi will also participate in Kerala's indigenous fest. The final matches will be held at 5:30 pm. This time, arrangements have been made to ensure a flawless game from start to finish. This time, a finishing system with a virtual line has been introduced to avoid complaints about the announcement of results.
