KOZHIKODE: The political picture in the Beypore Assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming state elections is becoming clearer, with KPCC president Sunny Joseph confirming that P.V. Anvar will contest as the UDF candidate. The UDF is aiming to regain the seat by fielding a strong candidate against Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas.
Even before the official announcement, Anvar has become active in Beypore. According to reports, he has met several prominent leaders, including Muslim League leader M.C. Mayin Haji, to seek their support. The UDF leadership believes that Anvar’s presence will help mount a tough challenge against Minister Riyas. Riyas, the sitting MLA from Beypore, had won the 2021 Assembly election with a majority of 28,747 votes.
The UDF considers Beypore a constituency where anti-incumbency sentiment could translate into electoral gains and believes Anvar can effectively capitalise on this mood. While the LDF secured a decisive victory in the previous Assembly elections, recent electoral outcomes have boosted the UDF’s confidence.
