THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details emerged in the suicide of a mother-daughter duo in Kamaleswaram the other day. SL Sajitha Raj and her daughter Greema S Raj were found dead inside the house at SGRA 42A, 2nd Street, Shanthi Gardens, Aryankuzhi, Kamleswaram on Wednesday. The suicide note mentioned the role of Sajitha’s son-in-law, Unnikrishnan, behind them deciding to end their lives.
Greema's husband, Unnikrishnan, who was trying to flee the country, was arrested by the police from Mumbai.
The accused, who was brought from Kochi last night under the leadership of Poonthura Station Crime SI Sreekesh, was produced before the police court yesterday evening. He was then remanded.
A detailed inspection of Unnikrishnan’s phone by the police found that he was very active in gay groups, including international ones. According to the police, Unnikrishnan liked to travel with his male friends often.
According to a few relatives, Unnikrishnan preferred his male friends over Greema. Despite the frequent quarrels, Greema believed that her husband would come back to her, but to no avail.
However, Unnikrishnan told police that he was innocent and had in no way abetted the suicide. Unnikrishnan blamed Sajitha's excessive affection and selfishness for causing a rupture in their relationship. Unnikrishnan told police that Greema would make a decision only after consulting with Sajitha, and he had no role in the relationship.
It will be only after the results of the tests on Sajitha and Greema's internal organs are received that the police will be able to confirm whether it was the cyanide that caused the death of the mother-daughter duo.
