THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan asked the Chief Minister in the Assembly if there was no truth in the allegation that bribe was taken by promising to make some individuals members of the PSC. Why did party secretary MV Govindan say that the party and the government will investigate this allegation?
He alleged that the party is trying to solve the problem by returning the bribe money. The Chief Minister is responsible for the PSC being corrupted. The position of the Chief Minister and the government is to protect the party members who bought the money. The opposition leader also accused PSC, which is a constitutional institution, of not filing a case despite the serious allegations which put it under the shadow of doubt.
The Chief Minister said that apart from the media reports, he did not notice any kind of irregularities. He also added that drastic action will be taken if any irregularities surface and there won't be any compromise.
'Youth Congress General Secretary sent an e-mail to the Police Commissioner of Kozhikode at 8.21 am yesterday to make a submission to the Leader of the Opposition and this was the first complaint received,' said the CM. The Chief Minister clarified that no major allegations have been raised about the PSC members.
The number of members was increased during the UDF govt. In 1982 there were 9 people. 13 in 1983, 15 in 1984, 18 in 2005 and 21 in 2013.
When Deputy Speaker Chittayam Gopakumar called V.D. Satheesan for a walkout speech on submission, ministers K.N. Balagopal, M.B. Rajesh, V. Shivankutty, K. Rajan and the CPM members stood up with noise. The opposition members also got up and started shouting. Satheesan pointed out previous incidents of allowing walkout speeches on submission, including that of VS Achuthanandan. When Satheesan said that the finance minister might not know about this because he was new, the uproar intensified. Satheesan continued his speech during the commotion and announced a walkout.
