THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V D Satheesan met Shashi Tharoor at his flat in Vazhuthacaud in the capital city. Reports say the two discussed the preparations for the assembly elections in detail. Tharoor has promised to actively involve in the election campaign. Tharoor told media that there is only one party in his life.
'I want the victory of the Congress. I am working for that. The goal is the victory of the UDF. There is only one party in my life and I have said that many times. The news of C J Roy's death is very sad,' said Tharoor.
The tension between Tharoor and the Congress leadership eased, with the ice melting following high-level meetings. The ice melted during a two-hour discussion held with Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. After the discussions, Tharoor responded to the media that he had constructive discussions with the leaders and would actively participate in the assembly election campaign. Tharoor rejected the report of him leaving the party.
With this, the party will actively involve Tharoor in the assembly election campaigns across the state. Along with this, he will also be involved in preparing the manifesto and vision statement. The Congress' move is to actively involve him in discussions with people from various sectors as part of the campaigns. The leadership took the initiative to bring Tharoor, who distanced from the party, closer to them after it became clear that victory is certain only if moved forward together.
