THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Affan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre Affan (23) attempted suicide in jail. The accused, who tried to hang himself in the prison toilet, has been shifted to the hospital. He tried to hang himself using a cloth that was left to dry. No other details of the incident have been released. The accused is presently in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
Meantime, the police had filed the first chargesheet in the massacre yesterday. The chargesheet was filed in the Nedumangad Second Class Magistrate Court in the case of the murder of accused Affan's paternal grandmother Salma Beevi (91). The others killed were Affan's brother Ahsan, his girlfriend Farsana, his paternal brother Abdul Latheef and his wife Shahida.
The incident related to the case happened on February 24. Affan started the series of murders by killing his grandmother Salma Beevi of Pangode. After killing four more, the accused surrendered at the Venjaramoodu police station. The charge sheet was filed by Pangode circle inspector Jinesh, the investigating officer in the case registered by the Pangode police.
Evidence collection was conducted with the accused a few days ago in the murder case of his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi. Evidence collection was also conducted at the shop from where Affan bought the hammer, the establishment where Salma Beevi's necklace was pledged, the shop where he bought the bag to keep the hammer, and the ATM where he deposited the money. The shop owners and employees of the money transfer institution had identified the accused.
