Very heavy rain coming; orange alert in two districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely in Kerala today. An orange alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The Meteorological Department has announced that very heavy rains are likely in isolated places. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts today.

Fishing has been completely banned till the 27th of this month due to the possibility of strong winds and bad weather along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Fishing is prohibited because the wind speed is likely to be 40 to 60 kmph.

Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities. Those living on river banks and below dams should also be vigilant. IMD has announced that 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain may fall in the next 24 hours.
