Very heavy rain continues, orange alert in five districts; holiday for educational institutions

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues in the state. Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad. The possibility of very heavy rain is predicted in isolated places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says that very heavy rain of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm will be received in 24 hours.


Nine districts are on yellow alert today. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain means that the rainfall will be between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


According to the latest radar image, the IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 kmph in Wayanad in the next three hours.


Holiday for educational institutions
In the wake of continuous heavy rains, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki and Wayanad.


In addition, a holiday has been declared for schools and madrasas in Nilambur taluk today. A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Kannur Iritty taluk, Cherthala and Kuttanad taluks.
