Violence erupts during UDF-CPM protest demonstrations in Perambra; Shafi Parambil MP injured in lathi charge

KOZHIKODE: Shafi Parambil MP suffered an injury in a lathi charge carried out by the police during the UDF-CPM protest demonstrations in Perambra. Several UDF workers also sustained injuries. The police resorted to a lathi charge after a clash erupted between CPM and UDF workers during the protest demonstrations. The police also used tear gas to disperse the workers. DySP Hariprasad also sustained an injury and has been admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode.

Meanwhile, the Congress party announced that it would stage protest marches at the block levels on Saturday in protest against the incident where Shafi Parambil got injured. The UDF has also decided to stage a protest demonstration in Kozhikode city. It would also stage a Secretariat march at 10 pm tonight.
