NEW DELHI: Former chief minister V S Achuthanandan's son V A Arun Kumar has clarified his stand on his candidature in Malampuzha. Arun told media that he has not yet thought about contesting the polls. He clarified that they have always been a party family and the party has not yet discussed his candidacy. Arun added that he will abide by the party's decision.

'Have not thought about the elections yet. I don’t know anything about it yet We are a party family. I did not hear the news that Suresh is the Congress candidate. That is all his personal decision. I am working now. The party’s decision is important to us,’ clarified Arun.

There were reports that A Suresh, who was V S Achuthanandan's personal assistant, would be the UDF candidate in Malampuzha. Following this, there were rumours that Arun would be the candidate in Malampuzha. Reports say Suresh had held direct discussions with Congress leaders regarding his candidacy in Malampuzha. Suresh expressed his interest in contesting as an independent in the UDF and not as a Congress candidate.

Malampuzha is presently a constituency where the UDF has little support. In the last election won by V S Achuthanandan in 2016, the Congress got 35,333 votes. In the last election won by A Prabhakaran, they got 35,444 votes. The party was in the third place behind the BJP in both times.
