KOZHIKODE: After the defeat in Thrissur in the Lok Sabha elections, K. Muralidharan said that he will stay away from politics. KPCC president K. Sudhakaran said that Muralidharan will be brought back and it is the responsibility of all of us. Sudhakaran was responding to the media after the meeting with Muralidharan.

He has not put forward any demand in the discussion. The party will discuss and decide what title should be given to K. Muralidharan. Sudhakaran also stated that giving him the KPCC chairmanship will also be discussed.

KPCC's move is to field Muralidharan at Wayanad, where by-elections are likely to be held if Rahul Gandhi resigns. But Muralidharan may not give in to this. There are also reports that Priyanka Gandhi may contest as UDF candidate in Wayanad constituency.

Muraleedharan had said that after being relegated to the third position in the Thrissur constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, he will no longer contest the elections and has decided to stay away from the political arena. He responded by lashing out at the Congress leadership. He had responded that if he had contested in Vadakara, he would have won.

Muraleedharan alleged that the leadership did not intervene in Thrissur even though it was a strong three-cornered constituency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Thrissur many times to campaign for NDA candidate Suresh Gopi. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also came for LDF candidate V S Sunil Kumar. But Muralidharan complained that no one came for him.

In 2019, Muralidharan came to Vadakara to face P Jayarajan in the Lok Sabha elections when he was the sitting MLA of Vattiyoorkkav on the instructions of the party. Muralidharan took this decision for the party when many others were reluctant to contest in Vadakara and he won. There were campaigns that Muralidharan would become the UDF candidate in Vadakara. But Muralidharan was shifted to Thrissur after his sister Padmaja left for BJP. His replacement Shafi Parambil by more than 100,000 votes over LDF's KK Shailaja in Vadakara.
