THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Afaan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre case that shocked Kerala, had borrowed money through a mobile application. This was clarified by Afaan's mother Shemi. She said that they had problems that could have been solved by selling the house. They only had a liability of Rs 25 lakh and that Afaan had received continuous phone calls on the eve of the attack, said Shemi.

'I was only half conscious when all this happened. I suspect that Afaan gave me something to sedate. Afaan tied a shawl around my neck to strangle me and before doing that, he asked me to forgive him. The loan amount had to be repaid on the loan app. We had to repay Rs 50,000 to our relative on February 24th. Money had to be repaid to the Central Bank to avoid confiscation on the same 24th.’

Afaan was upset on all these things. I cannot forgive him in my life. He ruined our family and life. He is the one who killed my darling son. How can I forgive him. Afaan had disagreements with some of our relatives. It is not known that there was any enmity. He was hostile towards his paternal uncle Latheef, whom he murdered because he was against the sale of the house in Perumala. He was attached towards his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi. He had asked Salma Beevi to give her chain to pawn. However, Salma refused to give it,' Shemi clarified.
