KOZHIKODE: The office of Kanthapuram has informed that they stand firm in the news of revoking the death sentence of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, jailed in Yemen. The office has clarified that they are firm in yesterday’s statement on her death sentence and that the news agency deleted the post on X.

A news agency quoted Kanthapuram’s office over revoking the death sentence of Nimisha Priya. This has been deleted now. Kanthapuram's office informed yesterday that Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been revoked and that further discussions will be held on her release.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has rejected the news that Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been revoked. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs have stated that the information shared by some individuals in Nimisha Priya's case is false. Yemeni social activist Samuel Jerome also said the news is wrong. However, Jawad Mustafawi, a disciple of a Sufi scholar in Yemen, claimed that an agreement has been reached to cancel the death penalty and that he has received confirmation from Yemen in this regard.

Nimisha Priya was sentenced to death by the trial court in 2017 in the murder case of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdu Mahdi. The execution was postponed with only hours left for the verdict to be carried out. Nimisha Priya is wife of Tommy Thomas of Thodupuzha.
