Advocate Mohan George named BJP candidate for Nilambur bypolls

MALAPPURAM: Advocate Mohan George will contest as BJP candidate in Nilambur by-election. He was announced as the candidate by the BJP central leadership. Mohan George is presently a member of the Kerala Congress Joseph faction state committee. He will take membership in the BJP Sunday afternoon. Mohan George, who was Kerala Congress B activist for four decades, is a native of Chungathara in Nilambur. He is an advocate in the Nilambur court. Mohan George while talking to the media said that there will be a strong contest in Nilambur. He said that he will work for the people of the hilly migrant area. A rough picture of the Nilambur by-election has become clear as the BJP also announced its candidate just before the last date for filing nomination papers.


BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar had responded that there was no need to contest in Nilambur. This had led to severe criticism within the party. Following this, the BJP announced its candidate. Tomorrow is the last date for filing nomination papers. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is likely to reach Nilambur today.


The LDF and UDF had officially announced their candidates for Nilambur. CPM state secretariat member and M Swaraj of Nilambur is the party candidate. KPCC general secretary Aryadan Shoukath is the UDF candidate. Meanwhile, P V Anvar, who resigned from the LDF MLA post and joined the Trinamool Congress, has also announced that he will contest the bypolls. He will file his nomination papers tomorrow as a Trinamool Congress candidate.


The Trinamool Congress, which has given permission to Anvar to contest from Nilambur, has also granted him the party symbol. It is learnt that the Trinamool Congress may make an official announcement regarding his candidacy today itself. Ministers from Bengal is likely to visit Nilambur for the campaign. Anvar had earlier hinted that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may come to campaign for him.
