ALAPPUZHA: Binoy Viswam has been re-elected as the state secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI). The decision was taken at the state conference held in Alappuzha. He is a member of the CPI central secretariat and working president of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). Some had raised the name of K Prakash Babu to the post.
As he was not interested in the post, a race was avoided. The post of state secretary was reduced to a single name when old Kanam supporters and Ministers K Rajan, and P Prasad, P P Suneer and P Santosh Kumar MP moved to Binoy Viswam side and the old K E Ismail faction became weak.
Binoy Viswam was elected secretary following the death of Kanam Rajendran in December 2023. This time, as the secretary elected by the state conference, he can perform his duties with big confidence.
Meantime, the general meeting to be held at Alappuzha beach at 4.30 pm today in connection with the conclusion of the CPI state conference will be inaugurated by party general secretary D Raja. State secretary Binoy Viswam will preside. Tens of thousands will participate in the Red Volunteer Parade and the general meeting. The Red Volunteer Parade will start from the Nalpalam at 3 pm.
Minister P Prasad, Dr K Narayana, Ramakrishna Pandey, K Prakash Babu, K P Rajendran, P Santhosh Kumar MP, district secretary S Solom will attend.
