KANNUR: Three people who operated the Instant Pay loan app were arrested in connection with the death of Nithin Raj, a first-year BDS student at Anjarakandy Dental College. The arrested have been identified as Hrishikesh Tiwari (32), Prashant Khewal (28) and Prakash Jai (54). The Kannur City Cyber Crime Police arrested the accused from Noida. The police, who arrived in Noida the other day, arrested the accused in a daring raid. The arrest was based on a complaint by Nithin Raj's teacher.

The Instant Pay loan app's office functioned in a manner similar to a large IT park. There were many employees in the office to check and make calls on the repayment of the loan. The police said that they also had a system that could operate more than 35 SIM cards simultaneously. Their method was to call from different numbers and threaten the customer to repay the money. This loan company was providing loans at an interest rate of more than 36 per cent.

Nithin had borrowed money from a loan app. The teacher's phone number was given as the reference number when he borrowed the money. After the repayment was delayed, the loan app operators constantly called and texted the teacher, harassing her. The teacher then filed a complaint with the college principal. The principal then called Nithin to the office and confiscated his mobile phone. 18 minutes after walking out of the principal’s room, Nithin jumped from the hospital building to his death.

The Special Investigation Team is investigating Nithin Raj's suicide. In parallel with the investigation into the threat from the loan app, they are also investigating the abuse Nithin faced from the college's teachers. An investigation is also underway against Dr N. Ram and Dr Sangeeta Nambiar, who were the teaching staff of Anjarakandy Dental College.
