THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Criticism has been levelled at the CPI state executive and state council that the unusual action at the Thrissur district conference has embarrassed the party and the leadership that controlled the district conference has made a serious lapse in this regard.
The move by Nattika MLA C.C. Mukundan to walk out of the district conference following his exclusion from the district council was unexpected. The party's state secretary and other party leaders were present at the conference. Neither the party leadership in Thrissur nor the state leaders were able to convince Mukundan about his exclusion from the district council. Everything proceeded without controversy from the branch to the constituency conferences. The incident in Thrissur, which took place just as the district conferences were about to be completed and the party was about to go to the state conference, affected the party's reputation.
The leaders also demanded that the leadership be willing to include Mukundan in the district council. State secretary Binoy Viswam replied that the party would reconsider Mukundan's matter. The main agenda was the preparations for the state conference. The state council will continue today.
